(This way is not suggested to be used any more. The curl way above is suggested.)

1. Using script under net_tools/dns_update/update_dns.sh, accoring to comment in script to set up. (rc branch)

2. Using a tool like `crond` to run script(update_dns.sh) periodically.

I suggest making the above change, after

1. the curl way is made general (not only specific to private IPs).
2. the curl way is confirmed do all the things here update_dns.sh does.

Do we want to push this ahead? How about we start to discuss and implement 1 and 2? Or is this just a discussion about possibilities? Conditional statements are not very operable.

There seems 2 working ways to do the same thing from the user's view. One should be retired to avoid confusion and the doubled maintaining cost. My suggestion was to keep the "curl" way and retire the other way (update_dns.sh way; internal implementation may still use it. But not as user interface).

I see. Then it is a suggestion to retire the non-curl way. I think it is a good idea because we don't want to keep two ways for the same function unless two ways provide some safety.

Code:
curl "http://10.16.0.249/dns_update/index.php?username=amoners&passwd=lGJobJZt&hostname=amoners&zone=dthink.net"

Here, the instruction should be clearer.

Suggestion to change it to:

curl "http://${server}:${port}/dns_update/index.php?username=${username}&passwd=${passwd}&hostname=${hostname}&zone=${zone}"

${server}:${port} is the address and port of the DDNS server.

One example:

curl "http://115.231.209.243:6080/dns_update/index.php?username=amoners&passwd=lGJobJZt&hostname=amoners&zone=dthink.net"

hostname is your machine's hostname.

hostname is not hostname while the subdomain's name. The URL in the example is for amoners.dthink.net .

@xwcwt: please check and revise the doc.

Currently the hostname&username should be same.
